It’s with sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Jimmy McGivney, long-time member of Harbor Drive. Jimmy will be remembered fondly for his bright personality and eagerness to always share a good story.

Services will be held on this Sunday from 4 PM – 8 PM at O’Briens funeral home in Wall township. His Funeral will be at 10:30 AM on Monday at St Catherine’s in Spring Lake.

Wall Township – James McGivney, 64, of Wall, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 19, 2018.

Mr. McGivney was born and raised in the Inwood section of New York City. He lived in Toms River and Spring Lake before moving to Wall 15 years ago. He worked in the art industry for Sotheby’s in New York for many years, as a member of Teamster’s Local 814, before retiring. For many years he enjoyed “walking and talking” on the boardwalk in Spring Lake and Belmar and was known by many on the boards. He also loved the theatre and frequented the Algonquin in Manasquan and NYC, and was an avid NY Rangers fan.

Mr. McGivney was predeceased by his parents, James and Elizabeth (nee Keegan), and by his sister, Barbara Jean Bush. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Barbara (nee Davis), as well as their children and their spouses, Erin Gordon, of Toms River, Tara and Anthony Arater, of Brick, Michael McGivney, of Toms River, and Sean and Yasiry McGivney, of New York. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Tyler Gordon and Declan James Arater, (and another grandchild on the way), his brother, Thomas McGivney, of Haskell, N.J., as well as nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Sunday, April 22, 2018, from 4-8 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, on Monday, April 23, 2018, at 10:30 A.M., followed by entombment at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. McGivney’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, at www.stjude.org, or to Forgotten Tails Animal Shelter, www.forgottentailsinc-nj.rescueme.org.
